Some of the commonly heard questions from a young pharmacist when talking about the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society include “Why should I join the MPS or the YPC in its activities?” or “What’s in it for me?”. Another familiar question commonly heard is “Why is the MPS relevant?”

1) Broaden your Horizons
Open your eyes and your minds as you speak with experienced pharmacists and discuss the challenges and issues that will affect the very way you work. The MPS and the YPC are both platforms to exchange ideas and to cultivate good pharmacy practices. We provide continuing pharmacy education as well as encourage the free exchange of ideas amongst our members. The YPC is also a platform for the sharing of vital time sensitive information of events and issues as they unfold.

Healthcare is a challenging field that is ever changing, especially with the advent of modern technology. What you learnt in university and the pre-conceived ideas that you may have had about pharmacy may already be obsolete even before you see your first patient. The YPC, being a chapter of the MPS, offers its members a chance to get to know fellow pharmacists – which in time may be prospective employers, prospective employees, best friends yet unknown and many more. In fact, with international events, you will have the opportunity to get to know pharmacists from other nations while fostering closer ties to your peers locally.
